A Star Wars Wedding to Remember: Olivia & Josh’s Galactic Celebration at Garey House
On April 27, 2025, we had the absolute honor of helping plan one of the most unforgettable weddings we’ve ever been a part of. Olivia and Josh are a couple who truly lead with heart and creativity, and their wedding day was a beautiful, joy-filled celebration completely tailored to them, right down to the lightsaber send-off.
A Day Full of Personal, Handcrafted Details
From the very start, Olivia and Josh wanted a day that was personal, meaningful, and a little out of this galaxy. I had the joy of working with them for over a year as their partial planner, and during that time, I really got to know them and what mattered most to them. One of my favorite parts of the process was helping them find nearly half of their vendor team, making sure we connected them with professionals who not only had the talent but also truly understood their vision and personality as a couple.
While the overall décor leaned toward simplicity, every single detail present at the wedding was intentional and heartfelt. With the help of their families, they handcrafted nearly every decorative element themselves. All of the centerpieces were made from LEGO floral kits, each one unique and carefully assembled with love. Olivia even created her own bridal bouquet and her Maid of Honor’s bouquet entirely out of LEGO flowers, both finished with lightsaber handles as the base, a perfect blend of romance and fandom. The boutonnieres followed suit, made from LEGO flower pieces thoughtfully put together by the couple.
The theme colors, varying shades of blue, set a dreamy, galactic tone that carried through the entire day. What I loved most was that even though the décor wasn’t over-the-top, everything that was there had meaning. It reflected Olivia and Josh’s personalities, passions, and relationship beautifully Being a part of helping them bring everything to life was such a privilege.
Themed Fun for Everyone
One of the best parts of this wedding was how Olivia and Josh invited their guests to be part of the experience. Everyone was encouraged to join in the Star Wars fun by dressing up as their favorite characters — and their guests did not disappoint! From Jedi robes to a full Chewbacca costume (yes, really!), the outfits brought so much personality, laughter, and excitement to the celebration. It wasn’t just a wedding; it felt like a gathering of their own little galaxy of loved ones.
We made sure to carry that playful, personal vibe into the wedding details as well. At the welcome table, guests were greeted by a custom wooden starship shadowbox frame, designed as a guest book alternative. Friends and family signed tiny wooden R2-D2 figures before dropping them into the frame’s glass panel, a fun, unique keepsake for the couple to display in their home. And because no Star Wars detail was too small, the pens provided for signing were tiny lightsabers, which quickly became a hit with both the kids and the grown-ups.
A Heartfelt Ceremony and Midday Celebration
The ceremony itself was one of the most meaningful parts of the day. It was officiated by the couple’s brother-in-law, who delivered a beautiful, heartfelt ceremony filled with personal stories and touches that reflected Olivia and Josh’s relationship. It made the moment feel incredibly intimate and genuine — exactly what the couple had envisioned. Olivia looked absolutely radiant in her stunning white lace gown, paired with a sheer, flowing cape that subtly nodded to the Star Wars theme while maintaining a timeless, elegant look.
This wedding was also unique in that it was a non-alcoholic, family-friendly celebration that started mid-day and carried into the early evening. We wanted to create a space where guests of all ages felt welcome and could truly enjoy themselves. During cocktail hour, guests were treated to appetizers and a selection of lawn games that kept both kids and adults entertained. Children in costume dashed around the open grounds in joyful, lighthearted chaos. It was such a wonderful example of how you don’t need late-night dancing or a stocked bar for a wedding to be meaningful, fun, and unforgettable.
Dinner, Dessert, and Galactic Entertainment
Dinner was one of the highlights of the day, and we wanted it to feel warm and relaxed. Guests were treated to a delicious spread of fresh pasta entrées and wood-fired pizzas, made right on-site with a mobile pizza oven.
Dessert was equally thoughtful and personal. In addition to a small, meaningful cake cutting (complete with a charming Star Wars-inspired cake topper), the couple treated guests to an assortment of decadent treats from Caketini. Rather than sticking to traditional flavors, they gave guests the opportunity to mix and match their own flavor combinations, which everyone absolutely loved. It was a sweet, interactive touch that had people coming back for seconds.
As evening settled in, the celebration moved into the courtyard for dancing and entertainment. This wasn’t just any dance floor, it held special significance, as this would be the final wedding hosted in this exact courtyard space before Garey House embarks on a new expansion project. Knowing this made the evening feel even more meaningful.
Guests had a blast on the dance floor and snapping photos at the custom space-themed photo backdrop we created, designed to look like a scene right out of hyperspace. The laughter, happy shouts from the kids, and glow of lightsaber toys flickering around the courtyard made for the perfect ending to a day filled with love, meaning, and a little galactic magic.
Lightsaber Fights, Newlywed Games & a Wookiee Surprise
One of the night’s standout moments was an epic lightsaber duel between the bride and groom, a playful and unforgettable battle of the newlyweds! The couple also took part in a Star Wars twist on the classic Newlywed Game, answering questions by raising their lightsabers. And then came the ultimate surprise: their DJ appeared before the wedding and during the reception, dressed as Chewbacca! He stayed in character for dancing, photos, and even when switching into Jedi robes for his breaks. It was a thoughtful, over-the-top gesture that absolutely delighted Olivia and Josh, showing just how much heart went into every part of this day.
A Lightsaber Tunnel Exit
As the sun set, guests lined up outside the venue, lightsabers raised high to form a glowing tunnel of vibrant blues, greens, and reds. The air was filled with cheers, laughter, and the unmistakable hum of the toy sabers igniting one last burst of Star Wars magic. Olivia and Josh made their grand exit beneath this canopy of colors, beaming with joy as they walked hand in hand through their galaxy of loved ones. It was the perfect, movie-worthy ending to a day that was entirely, unapologetically theirs, a celebration filled with heart, humor, and personal touches that reflected everything they love most.
Final Thoughts
Olivia and Josh’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. It wasn’t about following trends or traditions, it was about creating a day that reflected their love story, quirks, and shared passions. Helping bring their vision to life was a joy we’ll never forget.
