Despite the chilly weather, guests (many from the north) stepped outside through the glass doors to cool off , continue to dance outside, and enjoy fresh air before heading right back to the dance floor. Thankfully, we always talk through backup options when planning any outdoor wedding, and our Plan B quickly became essential. Friday kicked off with a quick rehearsal and a sweet, elegant rehearsal dinner set up at the front of the house. While the area surrounding the venue saw heavy downpours, the couple somehow lucked out with only minimal wind and light rain that cleared after mid-morning—such a blessing! We had originally hoped to begin setup Friday evening, but the weather delayed everything until Saturday. When the rain finally stopped, we moved into setup mode… only to face some of the strongest winds I’ve experienced in eight years owning a wedding planning business in Texas. We tried museum putty, tape, heavier items, weights on some tables, chairs leaning against tables to weigh down the linens. Nothing worked. Wood slices were literally taking flight. There was no way candles, plates, runners, or framed photos would survive. The bride looked stunning as she walked down the aisle, first with her stepdad and then transitioning to her grandpa for the final stretch. The sweetest touch? Their adorable dog, Dune, proudly serving as ring bearer. The bridal party brought so much energy and joy, creating the perfect atmosphere for the ceremony. Everything unfolded flawlessly. Transforming the Reception—Together As soon as the ceremony ended it was all hands on deck, along with family and friends, jumping into action. Because we had everything prepped and organized, we fully transformed the pavilion in about 45 minutes. Guests were welcomed by an antique wagon cart holding a memory display for loved ones who had passed and a custom whiskey barrel lid engraved with the couple’s names. Friends and family signed the lid as a keepsake the newlyweds will treasure forever. The reception décor was elegant with deep purples paired with black accents, including sleek black chair ties at every seat. The bridal party was seated at a long rectangular table that stretched across the room, while the couple was elevated on the stage at their own sweetheart table, beautifully highlighted for all to see. Just beside them, on a rustic wooden barrel table, was the dessert spread. This included a striking black wedding cake for the couple to cut, a smoked cheesecake groom’s cake, and dozens of cupcakes displayed on wooden stands. It was as beautiful as it was delicious! Dinner featured more Chuy’s favorites, but this time, hearty plates of enchiladas. Afterward, guests gathered for formal dances before enjoying the dance floor with music by the talented DJ Paul Secrest. I had the joy of working with them for over a year as their partial planner, and during that time, I really got to know them and what mattered most to them. One of my favorite parts of the process was helping them find nearly half of their vendor team, making sure we connected them with professionals who not only had the talent but also truly understood their vision and personality as a couple. While the overall décor leaned toward simplicity, every single detail present at the wedding was intentional and heartfelt. With the help of their families, they handcrafted nearly every decorative element themselves. All of the centerpieces were made from LEGO floral kits, each one unique and carefully assembled with love. Olivia even created her own bridal bouquet and her Maid of Honor’s bouquet entirely out of LEGO flowers, both finished with lightsaber handles as the base, a perfect blend of romance and fandom. The boutonnieres followed suit, made from LEGO flower pieces thoughtfully put together by the couple. The theme colors, varying shades of blue, set a dreamy, galactic tone that carried through the entire day. What I loved most was that even though the décor wasn’t over-the-top, everything that was there had meaning. In addition to a small, meaningful cake cutting (complete with a charming Star Wars-inspired cake topper), the couple treated guests to an assortment of decadent treats from Caketini. Rather than sticking to traditional flavors, they gave guests the opportunity to mix and match their own flavor combinations, which everyone absolutely loved. It was a sweet, interactive touch that had people coming back for seconds. As evening settled in, the celebration moved into the courtyard for dancing and entertainment. This wasn’t just any dance floor, it held special significance, as this would be the final wedding hosted in this exact courtyard space before Garey House embarks on a new expansion project. Knowing this made the evening feel even more meaningful. Guests had a blast on the dance floor and snapping photos at the custom space-themed photo backdrop we created, designed to look like a scene right out of hyperspace.
